The benefits of Goldenrod

**Goldenrod**

Goldenrod plants are now available for purchase. They are easy to grow in full sun, but it is important that the soil is dry to medium and well-drained to provide an ideal environment for their growth.

The goldenrod plant features bright yellow flowers that bloom in dense clusters atop tall, woody stems. These flowers are easy to identify and typically bloom from July through September, with each flower averaging about one-quarter inch in width.

It's common for people to confuse goldenrod with ragweed, a plant often linked to seasonal allergies.

There are several ways to consume goldenrod. The dried flowers can be used to make tea in tea bags or tinctures.

In traditional medicine, the above-ground parts of the goldenrod plant are utilized for their anti-inflammatory properties, which may help relieve pain and swelling.

Goldenrod contains several beneficial chemicals, including:

- **Saponins**: These compounds have antifungal properties that may help inhibit the growth of harmful yeast, along with anti-inflammatory effects.

- **Flavonoids**: Flavonoids possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. They include quercetin and kaempferol, which help protect your cells from free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that can contribute to chronic conditions, including heart issues and cancer.
